Many of these activities offer an English Version that is “language-agnostic” to provide language instructors from around the country a platform to remix these instructional materials, infusing them with their target language and culture! The activities within the Pathways Project OER Repository seek to help students solidify their interpersonal speaking and interpretive skills through task-based situations or communicative activities. These activities should be facilitated in the target language for approximately 90% (or more), per the recommendation of the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages. Materials Needed:Question Cards Google Slides Warm-up1. Begin by introducing the Can-Dos for today’s activity and distributing the question cards to each student. 2. Have students come up with three words that describe their own characteristics. 3. Students will explain why they picked those three words, and how they relate to their personal characteristics. If students need some assistance in getting the discussion going, use the questions below: 1. "Are you quiet or lively?" 2. "Do you like to play outside or play at home?" Main Activity1. Students will receive a question card, and they will begin the activity by going through the questions with a partner. What is your major? What grade are you in? 2. When students are finished conversing with their partners, they will introduce their partner to the rest of the class. 3. After the introduction, students will find similarities with their classmates. 4. If students have anything they would
like to know more about their classmates, then they will take this time to ask questions to their classmates. Wrap-UpAsk the following questions to finish the lab: 1. What was the name of the friends you met today? 2. What are you going to do this weekend? Talk about a few phrases that are used to greet someone. End of lab:• Read Can-Do statements once more and have students evaluate their confidence. NCSSFL -ACTFL Can-Do Statements:I can ask people about their background and what they like. I can introduce myself, and I can also introduce other students. I can greet somebody from a different culture in an appropriate way. |
